《英语语音》为英语及英语师范专业的一门专业基础课程，开设的对象是英语专业和英语师范专业大学一年级学生，开设时间为第一学期。本课程介绍英语语音的基本概念、调型结构及其含义，学习语音的基本知识，掌握英语语调的调核位置与信息焦点的关系，对比汉语声调与英语语调之间的差别，帮助学生排除母语的负迁移干扰，领悟英语本族语者在口语交际中如何使用语调，并能将其应用到自己的言语行为中去。
语音是语言学习三大要素（音、形、意）中最为重要的部分之一，对于从事师范教育和口译工作的人员尤为重要。本课程将系统教授元音、辅音、音节、重音、语调的基本知识，改变以往“重音轻调”的教学模式，帮助学生克服“中国腔”的困扰。正确地把握重音及话语节奏规律，通过使用得体的语音语调达到交际的目的，形成自然流畅的语流，养成良好的口语习惯。课程目标如下：
掌握元音、辅音基本音素的发音，
掌握多音节词的重音模式及复合词的重音位置；
熟悉并会使用功能词的强读式与弱读式；
把握句子重音及话语节奏规律；
熟悉调群的构成部分：调核前音段及调核音段；
掌握英语的基本调式结构，包括升调、降调、降升调、升降调等的曲线轮廓和调核前音段、调核音段的音调模式；
运用3T语调理论划分调群、确立调核位置；
正确得体地使用各种调型，准确表达话语含义。
